AWARD WINNING CHILDREN’S PERFORMER JAKE TAKE CHILDREN ON A "JUNGLE WALK" AT LIBRARIES ACROSS ONTARIO

June 9, 2010 -- "Hey kids, do you want to go on a Jungle Walk"?? So goes the opening line of one of award-winning children's musician JAKE DIFFER's most popular songs. This summer, hundreds of children and their families will be "jungle-walking" at libraries across Ontario as Music By Jake presents "Take a Jungle Walk with Jake", as part of the TD Summer Reading Club's "Destination Jungle" program.

Jake will perform 18 "Take a Jungle Walk with Jake" shows in 15 cities including London, Toronto, Kingston, Welland, Sudbury and Niagara-on-the-Lake. The show offers music, story-telling, and many humorous and colourful characters. As always at a Jake show, there will be plenty of opportunity for the children to join in the music-making with singing, clapping, dancing and rhythm-makers. Download PDF of event poster here.

JAKE DIFFER is an award-winning children’s songwriter and recording artist and has toured extensively across Canada. Apart from his library appearances, Jake will be performing at festivals in BC and Ontario and leading children in two weeks of musical fun and learning at Peterborough Museum's Summer Discovery Children's Camps. Jake’s CD HAPPY ALL OF THE TIME (which includes "Jungle Walk") was nominated for a Juno Award for “Children’s Album of the Year”, and he has earned Parents’ Choice Awards for his three albums, including Parents’ Choice Gold for TAKE A LITTLE RIDE WITH ME. His most recent CD ZIGGY ZAGGY ROAD features many award-winning musicians, and includes a cameo appearance by four-time Olympian Silken Laumann on the song "Child's Play", written to promote her best-selling book of the same name. A video of Jake’s song “My Garden” was released on Earth Day, April 22, 2010 and can be seen on YouTube.

TD SUMMER READING CLUB'S DESTINATION JUNGLE PROGRAM is offered by TD Bank Financial Group, the Toronto Public Library and Library and Archives Canada to Canadian children across the nation in both English and French. The program has been successful in inspiring children to spend more time reading books and visiting their local libraries. During the summer of 2009, more than half a million children participated in programs offered at their local libraries and read close to 2 million books!
